Kindness Matters

Having been in the jewellery industry for close to 20 years, I developed a true passion for its intricacies. It is more than just an appreciation for beautiful gems and the lovely pieces I get to create every day; it is also about the privilege of being part of my clients’ special moments and seeing their stories and sentiments embodied in a unique piece of jewellery.

Whether your jewellery costs five dollars or a million dollars, they are all jewels to me because they have brought a smile to someone’s face and should be worn with pride and treasured.

I wasn’t born a jeweller, even if it always lived in my soul. I spent years selling for others and frequently being told I am overqualified, informed I’m not the right fit for the company, or reminded of the timeworn comments: “We need employees that look pretty and hard sell” or “We need closers for today’s sale, never mind tomorrow” or “We need to sell the product, not worry about what the client wants.” Wow, what an attitude to have with those that trust you with their hard-earned money.

When an industry network of colleagues introduced me to The Gem Gallerie, a lovely local, comfortable, and chic family-run jewellery store that has been around since the early 80’s, I had the opportunity to take over as owner. It was time for clients to have a safe, comfortable place to find the jewellery they wanted on their terms—without the pressure to sell, sell, sell. As a person who loves jewellery, it has been a privilege to keep a local shop going for another generation. The Gem Gallerie story continues.

You never know who you are going to meet or what impact they will have on your life. Often, you find some wonderful ‘diamonds in the rough’ who can teach you a thing or two and, through those relationships, open new doors to possibilities you may never have imagined.

A lesson I love to share is that life’s moments are worth celebrating, and your jewellery tells the story of those moments by capturing the sentiment and the memory of loved ones.
