CHANGING THE WORLD, ONE GIRL AT A TIME…
2024 celebrates 5 years of the Girls on Fire Confidence Conference! This testimonial in particular touched my heart as my WHY for doing what I do:
“My daughter attended the Girls on Fire Workshop last weekend, and I just wanted to write in to tell you what has happened since.
Initially, she didn’t want to go; she thought that we were sending her because we thought she was broken. I read through the description with her, and ultimately she was only going for the sandwiches. When we picked her up, we weren’t sure how she felt. She was quiet and tired, but I think she just needed a day to let things absorb.
Since then, she has been helping around the house a lot more, making dinner with me, and not just emptying the dishwasher but making an effort to fill it with all the dirty dishes as well. And she’s so proud of herself for putting in the extra bit too! We found out the board she broke contained the name of a girl who hasn’t been especially nice to her this year, and she told me she was excited for school now because she knew this girl didn’t have any power over her anymore.
My daughter has struggled the last few years with anxiety, depression, and bullying. This workshop felt like something she could do just for her, and it would give her access to a new group of kids her age that she could potentially befriend, since forming friendships has been difficult for her. But so much more than that, I think you really got through to her, and you helped her see what we have been trying to show her all along.
As a woman who has spent the last six years trying to re-write my own inner dialogue and heal the trauma from growing up with my own confidence issues, having a course like this for my daughter means so much to me. It’s easier to grow up equipped with the necessary tools from the beginning than to try to undo years of ‘coping’ once you are an adult. So thank you for seeing the need and creating this event.”
